Help on its way for people treated in Kabul at the CURE Hospital - Pfizer Canada donates $428,500 worth of anti-inflammatories and antibiotics to Health Partners International
KIRKLAND, QC, May 10 /CNW Telbec/ - Top donor of medicines to Health
Partners International of Canada (HPIC), Pfizer Canada puts its shoulder to
the wheel to help the Afghan people treated at the CURE Hospital in Kabul, by
providing $428,500 worth of anti-inflammatories Celebrex and Solu-Cortef as
well as antibiotics Zithromax, Vibramycin and Eryc. These medicines had been
identified as a number one priority by the CURE hospital as much needed
reliable and safe treatments. HPIC received the Pfizer medicines at its
distribution centre in Mississauga, ready to be shipped out, as part of the
Canadian Medical Aid Program for Afghanistan.
"We are proud to support this humanitarian effort in Afghanistan, by
shipping out the requested quantities of Pfizer's powerful antibiotics and
safe anti-inflammatories. Pfizer Canada and HPIC share the same purpose: help
out people in need in Kabul and provide the CURE hospital staff with effective
medicines," says John Helou, Vice President, Public Affairs and Stakeholder
Relations, at Pfizer Canada. "Once more, our organization lives up to its
guiding aspiration of 'Working for a healthier world' through its long-term
commitment to HPIC."
Pfizer Canada - Top HPIC donor of medicines since 1994
Pfizer Canada has been supporting HPIC since 1994, donating a range of
needed and high-quality medicines, such as antibiotics, antifungals,
antiparasitics and pain relievers, worth more than $30 million. For most of
the Canadian health-care industry, HPIC is the unique channel of getting
medical aid to people living in impoverished countries. Since 2006, HPIC has
sent several shipments which included Pfizer medicines, namely to
organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nicaragua, Lebanon,
Pakistan, Niger, Zimbabwe, Honduras, Uganda, Indonesia, Angola, and China.
Pfizer Canada has contributed medicines to many of HPIC's major overseas
humanitarian missions, including emergency responses to natural disasters and
bulk shipments for on-the-ground partners. When the tsunami struck Southeast
Asia in December 2004, Pfizer led an unprecedented industry response that
resulted in a shipment to Sri Lanka, which was the largest in HPIC's history.
Pfizer's commitment to HPIC supports the organization's programs for
physicians and dentists, disaster response, and international health. Each
Physician Travel Pack (PTP), a portable selection of basic medicines and
supplies for use in the field, that leaves HPIC with a Canadian medical
professional or humanitarian carrier contains at least one Pfizer product.
