Smitherman offers Tory and Hillier tickets to SICKO
TORONTO, July 20 /CNW/ - Today Liberal Deputy Premier George Smitherman
offered to purchase tickets for John Tory and Randy Hillier to see the hit
movie SICKO to understand why public health care is important.
"McGuinty Liberals support public health care and want to keep moving
forward. John Tory's Conservatives want to take us backwards," said Minister
Smitherman.
In today's Kingston Whig Standard Conservative radical candidate, Randy
Hillier, pledged privatization of public health care.
"I'm inviting John Tory and Randy Hillier to see what their backwards
scheme would mean for Ontario," said Smitherman. "SICKO shows just how
backward the Conservative scheme is."
The Conservative election platform calls for more privatization and Randy
Hillier advocates for a "healthy diet" of "privately delivered" health care.
His editorial calls for the "public's freedom to choose service providers and
an open marketplace for doctors," - this equates to the private delivery model
that is currently being practiced south of the border.
"Private health care is backwards health care," said Smitherman
