Trane Recalls CleanEffects(TM) and American Standard AccuClean(TM) Filtration Systems Due to Fire Hazard
TORONTO, Aug. 3 /CNW/ - Trane announces a voluntary recall of the
following products.
Name of Product: Stand alone CleanEffects(TM) and AccuClean(TM) Air
Filtration Systems.
Units in Canada: Approximately 2,600.
Manufacturer: Trane, a business of American Standard Inc.
Hazard: Electrical arching inside the collection cells can cause the
collection cell material to overheat or ignite posing a fire hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: There have been no reported incidents in Canada. In
the United States, Trane has received twelve reports of overheating and
property damage limited to the HVAC equipment. No injuries have been reported.
Description and Models: The recall involves whole-house air filtration
units that were installed with consumers' air handlers or furnaces. They were
sold as the Trane CleanEffects(TM) and American Standard AccuClean(TM)
systems. The recall involves air filtration systems with serial numbers prior
to 7222(xxxxx) and including:

The serial and model numbers are located on the inside of the door of the
air cleaning unit. Models with other serial numbers, models installed as an
integrated part of the air handler or furnace; and models with the "Perfect
Fit"(TM) are not subject to this recall.
Sold at: Trane's independent dealers sold the CleanEffects(TM) air
cleaner product in Canada from December 13, 2005 through June 14, 2007, on an
installed basis. American Standard independent dealers sold the AccuClean(TM)
air cleaner product in Canada from December 13, 2005 through June 14, 2007, on
an installed basis.

Remedy: Consumers with an air handler unit should stop using the recalled
systems immediately. To turn off the system, push and hold the round power
button on the front of the air cleaner door for about three seconds until the
LED panel illuminates. Release the power button. The LED panel will remain lit
for about fifteen seconds and then go out. Affected consumers will be notified
directly about obtaining a replacement collection cell at no cost.
The Canadian recall is being conducted in cooperation with the Ontario
Electrical Safety Authority who will monitor the effectiveness of this recall
program.
