Media Advisory - CIHI releases latest health spending figures at Economic Club of Canada event (November 19)

    What: "Health Care in Canada: Debunking the Spending Myths"
          An Economic Club of Canada luncheon with Graham W. S. Scott

What we spend on health care continues to ignite passionate debate on the sustainability of our system, fuelled at times by ideology, misconception or myth. But what are we really spending? Where is the money going? What are Canadians getting in return?

At an Ottawa lunch event on November 19, Graham W. S. Scott, Chair of the Board for the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), will publicly reveal CIHI's projected figures for health care spending in Canada in 2009, highlighting the latest expenditure trends and international comparisons. He will also provide an evidence-based overview of how our health system and the health of Canadians have evolved over the past decade, and examine the challenges that lie ahead.

Copies of National Health Expenditure Trends, 1975 to 2009, CIHI's latest annual report on health spending, will be distributed at the event.
