Ten Shows, Eight Works in Progress, Impromptu Encounters, General Revelry... Only 15 Days to See and Experience it All!
QUEBEC CITY, April 8 /CNW Telbec/ - Centered around a "disorder" motif,
the Carrefour international de théâtre's artistic director, Marie Gignac,
announced the program for this festival, which will run from May 14 to 31.
More than 300 international, Quebec-based and Canadian artists will share
space at the various locations participating in this year's - the 9th -
edition of the festival.
For the official 400th-anniversary celebration event, Carrefour
international will present the exclusive North American premiere of Secret by
CIRQUE ICI _ JOHANN LE GUILLERM.
The general public will also be invited to experience Regards-9, a
THEATRE NIVEAU-PARKING and THEATRE DE LA BORDEE co-production specially
created for the 400th anniversary. Nine writers, inspired by Quebec City, have
created works that will be presented in a unique format.
Carrefour international will inaugurate the street-theatre component of
its program with La Marea. This show, which will take Cartier Avenue by storm,
will be put on free of charge for festival attendees and the general public.
The festival will also feature public performances of the most recent
version of The Busker's Opera, by Robert Lepage and his troupe EX MACHINA.
Brazil's Enrique Diaz will perform The Seagull play - a free and
far-reaching interpretation of Chekov's great classic... theatre playing at
theatre.
Britain's Tim Crouch and his theatre company, NEWS FROM NOWHERE, will be
making their inaugural appearance in Quebec City, presenting An Oak Tree. At
each performance, the creator of this work will share the stage with a guest
actor who will discover for the first time, along with the audience, the type
of adventure in which he will be involved - an out-of-the-ordinary experience.
From the Netherlands, HOTEL MODERN will present La Grande Guerre, a work
made up of both theatrical elements and cinematography. Theatre goes small, to
give full play to the breadth of emotion.
La belle meunière, a French theatre company under the direction of Pierre
Meunier, will also make its premiere at this festival, with a "dramatized
lecture" called Au milieu du désordre. The simplicity of the performance
elements pays tribute to the writer's intelligence and the actor's talent.
Dave Saint-Pierre will bring his show Un peu de tendresse, bordel de
merde ! to Quebec City. The public will be summoned to experience an
exceptional yet disturbing event, categorized as "dance theatre".
Christian Lapointe, a writer, stage director and actor, has been invited
to create Anky ou la fuite/Opéra du désordre - a show for those whose inner
voices are at times "in sync" and, at times, at odds with each other...
"Performance in relay" will be the main feature of Les Chantiers -
Constructions artistiques: eight activities ranging from readings of new works
to works in progress. This initiative, led by tectoniK, will be carried out at
Premier Acte.
